After four seasons, the family drama finally came to an end for the Roys (and the family business, Waystar Royco) when Succession wrapped last summer on Max. (No spoilers here, but read our interview with Matthew Macfadyen about the Succession series finale.)
Succession earned several Emmy Award nominations over the years and a handful of Golden Globes, including Best Television Series – Drama, with its final chapter topping our list of the most anticipated TV events of 2023.
“We decided this was the right time to end the show and that was bittersweet — particularly for me, because I finally bought some shoes that are appropriate for award shows and this might be the last time I ever get to wear them,” Succession creator Jesse Armstrong said during his Globes acceptance speech at the Jan. 7 ceremony. “No, it is bittersweet, but things like this make it much sweeter.”
The show wasted no time with shocking twists and turns during its last season — including its bombshell third episode — before it all finally ended back in May.
In an interview with Rolling Stone following the episode’s premiere, Sarah Snook, who recently won a Golden Globe for her role as Shiv, told us about her reaction to Succession‘s shocking twist halfway through the season. (And don’t worry, no spoilers.) “Like, Whoa! That’s a huge swing. That’s amazing from Jesse [Armstrong]. In some ways, it was a long time coming.” (You can check out spoilers in the complete Q&A.)
Brian Cox, meantime, who stars as Logan Roy, discussed his character’s relationship with his children in Succession‘s official podcast. “He does love them — that’s his Achille’s heel,” Cox said. “He’d be a lot better off if he didn’t love his children. He’d be a happier man. But he loves his children and it’s a conflict. He cannot deal with it — the pain of it. The fact that the loves his children and they don’t honor him. All they want is entitlement, avarice. That’s all they represent.”
