The NWSL Is Back — Here’s How to Stream Every Women’s Soccer Game

After clinching their first Olympic gold since 2012, the USWNT are returning as heroes — but they’re also back to being rivals. The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) was on hiatus for seven weeks, as its star players packed up their cleats for Paris. But the champs had to keep their celebrations brief, as the regular season resumes on August 23.

Whether you’re a season pass holder or just tuning in post-Olympics, there’s never been a better time to be a women’s soccer fan. But fans looking to stream the games will find that NWSL availability is a confusing patchwork of free and premium networks and streaming services. That’s why we’ve rounded up the best options for streaming every NWSL game without cable.

The best way to find each game is to check the NWSL schedule, which has a complete breakdown of each game and where it can be streamed. According to the NWSL, the games will be streaming as follows:

  • Weekly Friday night matches on Prime Video.
  • Weekly Saturday night double-headers on ION.
  • Regular season matches on the CBS Television Network and Paramount+, with additional matches airing on CBS Sports Network.
  • ESPN will air matches across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+

There are several different ways to watch these channels, including streaming bundles that let you catch most of the action. Here’s a breakdown of the different streamers.

ION, which carries many of the games, is a free channel that’s included with DirectTV Stream. Depending on the region, DirectTV Stream should also carry local affiliates of CBS, which air some of the games.

Paramount+ will get you access to CBS to stream many of the games, including top matches between reigning champs Gotham FC vs Portland Thorns and a SoCal rivalry between San Diego Wave FC and Angel City FC. Hulu + Live TV includes a 3-day free trial and costs $76.99/month after that. CBS, CBS Sports Network, ESPN, and ESPN 2 are included with Hulu + Live TV making it one of the most comprehensive options for streaming women’s soccer. However, ION is not included.

NWSL+

Games that aren’t carried by other networks and streamers can be found on NWSL+, a free streamer that only requires an e-mail to sign up. The app can be found on Amazon Firestick, Roku, and Apple TV.

How To Watch ION

ION is carrying Saturday night games this season. It’s a free channel that’s available over-the-air (OTA), meaning you can watch it with a TV antenna or cable subscription, depending on your region. Those without an antenna can find ION with a free service like Pluto or Tubi, or with their smart TV’s native platform such as Google TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

Players To Watch

Forward Mallory Swanson was Team USA’s top scorer in Paris, notching the lone goal in the USA-Brazil gold medal final. In the NWSL, Swanson plays for the Chicago Red Stars. Washington Spirit’s Trinity Rodman and Portland Thorns FC’s Sophia Smith also scored multiple goals for Team USA. Alex Morgan was on team USA’s winning 2012 Olympics and 2015 and 2019 World Cup rosters, but was notably not selected by head coach Emma Hayes for Paris. Morgan currently plays for San Diego Wave FC. The regular season ends on November 3, and the final will take place on November 23.

That’s That Me Exclusive: Where to Buy Every Edition of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Short n’ Sweet’ Album

“I reckon it’s.. officially short n’ sweet month💋💋💋,” Sabrina Carpenter wrote online, weeks before dropping her highly anticipated new album. Fans can now pick up her sixth studio LP, Short n’ Sweet, online and on shelves now in a slew of exclusive vinyl variants. Staying true to its title, the 36-minute Short n’ Sweet includes tracks like “Taste,” Slim Pickins,” “Good Graces,” and, of course, “Please Please Please” and “Espresso.”

“This project is quite special to me and I hope it’ll be something special to you too,” Carpenter wrote online after debuting the Short n’ Sweet album cover and title in June.

“Short, sweet, has made an extraordinary album,” Taylor Swift shared of Short n’ Sweeton Aug. 23 on her Instagram Stories with checkmarks by each line.

Carpenter, who will embark on a sold-out North American tour in support of the album later this year, has taken over our playlists this summer, with chart-topping hits “Please Please Please,” and the undeniably catchy “Espresso.” (“I decided to put that burden on other people,” Carpenter told Rolling Stone earlier this year.)

And while everyone from your uncle to your BFF quotes its chorus with lyrics like “that’s that me espresso” every time they enter the coffee shop, Carpenter somehow followed it up with an equally quotable Short n’ Sweet track (“please don’t embarrass me, motherf-cker”). The Jack Antonoff-produced “Please Please Please” has garnered over hundreds of millions of streams alone, and propelled Carpenter to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 after it hit streaming services this summer.

“There’s like an Olivia Newton [John] feeling, there’s a Dolly feeling, there’s an incredibly super modern pop feeling,” Antonoff previously told Rolling Stone. “The little vocal runs she does are so bizarre and unique — they’re doing this really odd, classic, almost yodel-y country thing. She’s becoming one of the biggest young pop stars, and that song is such a statement of expressing yourself, not just lyrically, but sonically.”

If the tracks’ success are any indication, Carpenter’s new LP, Short N’ Sweet, is destined to become one of the biggest albums of 2024. Instead of releasing just one edition of her studio project, the “Espresso” hitmaker followed the lead of other pop superstars like Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish and dropped several exclusive editions of the album.

Sabrina Carpenter Is Viscously Clever and Done With Love Triangles on ‘Short N’ Sweet’: 5 Takeaways

Sabrina Carpenter Is Viscously Clever and Done With Love Triangles on ‘Short N’ Sweet’: 5 Takeaways

After Sabrina Carpenter’s summer takeover with “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” the anticipation for Short n’ Sweet was at an all-time high. On her sixth album, the pop singer keeps the surprises coming as she delivers a masterclass in clever songwriting and hops between R&B and folk-pop with ease. Carpenter writes about the frustration of modern-day romance, all the while cementing herself as a pop classic. Here’s everything we gathered from the new project.

Please Please Please Don’t Underestimate Her Humor

Carpenter gave us a glimpse of her humor on singles “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” — she’s working late because she’s a singer; ceiling fans are a pretty great invention! But no one could have guessed how downright hilarious she is on Short n’ Sweet, delivering sugary quips like “The Lord forgot my gay awakenin’” (“Slim Pickins”) and “How’s the weather in your mother’s basement?” (“Needless to Say”). She’s also adorably nerdy, fretting about grammar (“This boy doesn’t even know/The difference between ‘there,’ ‘their’ and ‘they are!’”) and getting Shakespearian (“Where art thou? Why not uponeth me?”). On “Juno,” she even takes a subject as serious as pregnancy and twists it into a charming pop culture reference for the ages: “If you love me right, then who knows?/I might let you make me Juno.” It’s official: Do not underestimate Ms. Carpenter’s pen. — A.M.

RFK Jr. Suspends Campaign, Endorses Trump

RFK Jr. Suspends Campaign, Endorses Trump

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has suspended his 2024 presidential campaign, and according to a court filing in Pennsylvania on Friday will throw his weight behind former President Donald Trump.

Multiple news outlets reported on Wednesday that independent presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. was planning to drop out of the race and endorse Trump. He clarified at an event in Arizona on Friday that he is not terminating his campaign, only suspending it, and that his name will remain on the ballot in non-battleground states. He said that if enough people still vote for him and Trump and Kamala Harris tie in the Electoral College, he could still wind up in the White House.

The Chicks’ ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’ Has Somehow Become a MAGA Anthem on TikTok

The Chicks’ ‘Not Ready to Make Nice’ Has Somehow Become a MAGA Anthem on TikTok

One little funny/bizarre/horrifying thing about the internet is the way it offers up everything and, in doing so, makes it possible to strip anything of its history. But to paraphrase Kamala Harris, you didn’t just fall out of the coconut tree. “You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you” — wise words worth heeding, especially for all the Trump voters and conservatives making TikToks with the Chicks’ “Not Ready to Make Nice.”

Over the past month or so, “Not Ready to Make Nice” has become an unexpected MAGA anthem of sorts, meant to express a certain rage at liberals supposedly telling conservatives what to do all the time (the past few Supreme Court terms notwithstanding, apparently). Young women especially have taken the song as a way to push back against the possibility of Harris becoming the first female president.
