With the success of the Nintendo Switch OLED and Valve Steam Deck OLED, handheld gaming consoles are more having a moment. And after the popularity of last year’s Asus ROG Ally, the tech company announced its newest gaming device for 2024.
Enter the Asus ROG Ally X, which is priced at $799.99 at Best Buy, a new handheld portable PC that has increased performance, more storage, and a longer battery life compared to its predecessor. It even comes in a new black colorway instead of white.
For 2024, the Asus ROG Ally X comes with 1TB of onboard storage, a larger 80-watt battery with up to five hours of juice per charge, two USB-C ports, and a new eight-directional D-pad for precision gaming. However, it’s slightly larger than the previous model at 1.49 pounds instead of 1.34 pounds — thanks to the larger battery.
Additionally, the Asus ROG Ally X runs a full version of Windows 11 with the Armoury Crate SE interface on top of the operating system for easier navigation for game settings and performance, as well as quick access to cloud game services and titles. The portable gaming console has access to Xbox Game Pass (it even comes with three months of service for free), Nvidia GeForce Now, Steam, PlayStation Remote Play, and others.
Meanwhile, last year’s Asus ROG Ally is available for purchase. It goes for $649.99 at Best Buy. Although it was released in 2023, the handheld portable PC is still excellent for portable gaming. It has the same AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, the same operating system, and the same seven-inch touchscreen display at 120Hz refresh rate as the model X, but with less storage space at 512GB, a smaller 40-watt battery, a four-directional D-pad, one less USB-C port, and less RAM at 16GB instead of 24GB.
At $799.99, the Asus ROG Ally X is now available at Best Buy and Asus.com.
