The Chicks will perform at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, Rolling Stone has confirmed. Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Strayer will take the stage to give their rendition of the National Anthem.
The final evening of the convention, held in Chicago, is reported to feature Vice President Kamala Harris, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
The Chicks are the latest country act to perform at the Convention this year, after Jason Isbell and Mickey Guyton on Monday and Maren Morris on Wednesday. Overall, it’s been quite a musical convention, from the surprisingly delightful delegation roll call (in which DJ Cassidy played a different song for each state) to Lil Jon’s surprise appearance.
Other performers at the DNC include Stevie Wonder — who performed his stellar hit “Higher Ground” — and John Legend and Sheila E., who delivered a cover of Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” on Wednesday. James Taylor was slated to close out night one with a performance of Carole King’s “You’ve Got a Friend” on Monday, but was ultimately cut due to the time crunch.
